Demand for expansive and improved broadband services is creating urgency for a stronger, better, faster Telecommunications industry. But alongside high expectations and new post-COVID challenges, the need for a capable workforce has slowed efforts for ideal expansion throughout the U.S.
Hiring efforts that were paused due to the pandemic have continued to strain companies looking for top-performing talent. Candidates do not want to change jobs due to potential layoffs to avoid being the “last one hired, first one fired.” But with technology and regulations changing so rapidly, it is becoming difficult for companies to meet the increasing Utilities Construction demands quickly without the right candidate. Contact The Newport Group today to speak with one of our top construction recruiters.
Slow Downs Due To Labor Shortages And Supply Chain Issues
While some Utilities Construction is returning to pre-pandemic levels, there are still wide-spread labor shortages especially with all of the COVID-19 construction regulations. A new study by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and data from construction technology firm Procore have found that activity is returning to pre-coronavirus levels in many parts of the country, and firms are trying to keep up by rapidly adding workers.
The new economic data shows future projects are being canceled, and many others are being delayed by labor shortages and supply chain issues, underscoring the need for additional federal recovery measures. This is a different reality than the construction surplus predicted in April. For instance, 61% of firms report having had at least one project halted or canceled because of the pandemic. This study shows the toll the pandemic took on the construction industry and the immediate need for trailblazing talent.
